Just wanted to offer an update to the ongoing efforts to have Alabama brewers and distillers included in Senate Bill 126.
In case you need to catch up on SB126 click HERE.
Since we put out the Call to Action mid-week, there has been a flurry of activity and conversation. Your calls and emails are working and we need to keep them going! Several legislators haven taken notice that the bill, as currently written, excludes Alabama’s locally owned small business breweries and distilleries and harms a vital market segment that it has no reason to exclude.
It has also come to light that not all wholesaler interests were involved in the effort to exclude Alabama brewers and distillers from the bill. We are pleased to see that many of our wholesalers are allies of our breweries and distilleries.
We also confirmed with the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board that the bill, as currently written, would not allow delivery service to occur from brewery and distillery tasting rooms. Therefore, an amendment to SB126 must be made to include Alabama brewers and distillers in order for home delivery from them to happen. Any revenue streams are vital to these small businesses that were dramatically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
So, please keep up your calls and emails to your state representatives about making this amendment to SB 26 to INCLUDE these locally owned small businesses and then, Pass it!
Your support in these matters truly proves we as consumers have a voice and we don’t mind being heard!
HERE is the link to find your state representatives. Tell them to Include Alabama’s brewers & distillers and then Pass the Bill!
Thanks Carie!
